••• SIDENKO, IVAN VASILYEVICH
agricultural business (Kherson)
In 1998 Mr. Sidenko and his wife set up a farming company called “Vlasnyk”. They began growing corn and oil-bearing crops on 50 hectares of land. In 2003 Mr. Sidenko built his first greenhouse; in 2004 he renovated the existing greenhouse and built another five, with a total surface area of 0.5 hectares, in order to grow early tomatoes. In this way, the farmer gradually switched to growing vegetables, and invested additional funds in setting up an irrigation system. Today Mr. Sidenko grows various crops, including early and late tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplants, and onions. The farmer applied to Bank Forum for the first time in March 2006. The bank approved a credit line in the amount of UAH 70,000 and granted the entrepreneur the first tranche of UAH 40,000 to purchase fertilizers, seeds and chemicals. In April of the same year Mr. Sidenko received the second tranche in the amount of UAH 30,000. The credit funds were spent on the purchase of a drip irrigation system and on salaries of hired personnel. As the business grew, the loan amounts increased. In all Mr. Sidenko obtained six loans totalling UAH 310,000. In February 2008 the bank increased the credit line amount to UAH 200,000 and granted the farmer the next tranche, in the amount of UAH 100,000, to finance the current agricultural cycle. Since he began working with the bank, Mr. Sidenko has increased the area under cultivation to 80.5 hectares and has switched to drip irrigation.
