•••How to become a partner bank of the UMLP |
The UMLP invites potential partner banks in participating in the programme. But to become a partner of the UMLP, an applicant bank must be financially stable and have a strategy clearly focused on serving micro and small enterprises. When selecting a potential partner-bank, UMLP auditors carry out a detailed analysis of the bank's financial status and the loan portfolio.
If the bank meets the above-mentioned conditions, the UMLP offers a technical assistance package as a prerequisite for receiving a loan for on-lending funds. The loan agreement is specific about how the Program, including the provision of technical assistance from the UMLP, is to be organized within the bank and how funds are to be used. The technical assistance consists of implementation of the most appropriate credit technology ensuring high efficiency, which is achieved through a streamlined credit cycle and the elimination of bureaucratic barriers. As a result, a competitive high quality product in the field of MSE lending is created.
As part of the technical assistance package, the staff in partner-banks receives intensive training in credit analysis and portfolio management. The Programme emphasizes the commercial viability of all borrowers. Sound credit analysis and portfolio quality are considered the key to viable MSE lending. Loan officers are trained to analyse the management, the market and the financial situation of the company, which includes cash flow forecasts. Collateral is considered a secondary condition, and partner-banks are encouraged to consider non-traditional forms of collateral.
The list of the UMLP's partner-banks includes only thoroughly analysed and financially stable banks.
